Welcome to the 2017 JA Bowl-a-Thon Central Oregon!
What is Junior Achievement?
Junior Achievement (JA) is a nonprofit youth organization with a core purpose to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. We work in partnership with schools and businesses to improve knowledge in the areas of financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship.
What is Bowl-a-Thon?
The annual Bowl-a-Thon is the biggest source of funding for JA programs. Each year, companies throughout our community form teams of bowlers to participate. Each bowler raises money from friends, family and colleagues. It is a fun filled day and a great chance for co-workers to get together in support of a great cause!
Where Does the Money Go?
It goes to the future of our children because they are the future of our community! For over 67 years, JA has been partnering with volunteers from the business community and local schools to teach students how business works. Thanks to more than 4,200 volunteers in Oregon and SW Washington, over 44,000 students state wide and 2,050 local students will benefit from JA programs this year. These programs are largely funded by the Bowl-a-Thon!
What Do the Students Learn?
Junior Achievement programs allow students to experience how free enterprise is designed to work; ethically, enthusiastically and efficiently. Using age appropriate materials, business volunteers and teachers collaborate on workshops that hone skills while providing role models for our next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs. Programs range from five weeks to a full semester, so this information sticks with a child! Our students learn to think, to reason, and to dream about the possibilities for the future.
